That's right, I'm now a resident of Tacoma, WA. I've been here a week now, if you want to get technical about it. I've spent most of that time acclimating, with a couple days walking around Seattle to get my bearings and see how the fancy people live. There are buses here! And trains! And underground mass-transit! It's all so very new to me, and I feel like I've just left the farm. *swoon*

However, this isn't meant to be some emo blog about my life. I mean, I'm sure it could be -- but it seems rather silly to not update for almost a year, just to blow the novelty on that. So! I moved up here for a few reasons. I'll most likely be joining my friend's band in the coming weeks, but this is also a much better area to try and get in contact with other glass artists, learn new techniques (like sandblasting and kiln-forming), and learn more about Haida/Salish/Coastal art.

Unfortunately, I could only afford to fly, and that only allowed me two suitcases. All my glass, lead, wood, tools had to stay in San Antonio. I managed to bring all the hand tools and one grinder (which I truthfully rarely use), so it shouldn't be hard to get going again. It's just frustrating to have had to leave all that glass behind. Ah well. I'll keep y'all updated, and look forward to having more glass to post in the near future.

I also feel I should mention that I've cleaned out the close to 2,000 deviations I had waiting here from my watch list. Holy god, thank you high-speed access.

[EDIT]: I've also just updated my website into something that actually functions as one, and not just the two pages of hand-wrung HTML that it was previously. Thank you, FrontPage!

Best of luck to you with the band and... well.. everything! I hope you'll find the ground you've been looking for in Tacoma!
Thanks, Ingrid :) I'm still a pretty healthy mix of excited and worried, so I shouldn't run out of steam anytim soon.

Cead mile failte romhat! I'm about 20 minutes north of you. Tacoma's definitely the place to be for glass art... you can't walk 10 steps without tripping over a Chihuly.

Ockham's Razor sound phenomenal, I'll definitely be checking out a few of their many upcoming dates (wish I had caught them at the Owl n' Thistle... I love that pub).

Be sure to check out the Burke Museum when you have time: [link]
They have a great collection of Pacific Northwest native art... Haida, Tlingit, Salish, Kwakwaka'wakw, etc.

If you need help with anything or have questions about the area just drop me a note brother. You'll get to say "Ta se ag cur baisti" a lot here but I think you'll enjoy it.

That's quite a climate change! I hope your new home is all you hope it to be!

Best of luck, sounds like the band should be fun.

I feel your pain, although my situation was different... had to throw out a whole load of paint and probably a paint brush because of the new airport laws.
I gave away all my old paints, and Prismas, and chalk and oil pastels for the same reason. They single out the tattooed 20-something enough as it is ;)
